Stepping Up: 3 simple steps to Leading for Innovation– Leadership Development Tips

Stepping up is all about breaking down barriers and taking responsibility. Research proves that the best ideas come from front-line employees and team members who aren’t afraid of stepping up with their ideas. But, as a leader, you know it’s not that simple because your team members aren’t always bringing you a one billion dollar idea like what happened with the Starbucks Frappuccino story. (If you haven’t heard about that one you should check it out too.) So, your challenge is knowing how to interact with your team when you know that the idea that they’re bringing you won’t work. You need to leader your team in stepping up and sharing ideas.

Stepping Up

When I wrote, Stepping Up, we surveyed people and asked them why they didn’t step up more and bring their ideas to their leaders, they said it was because: “Their leaders most often dismissed their ideas” Let’s say one of your people brings you an idea about how to make your meetings more inspiring. You’re concerned that their idea will make your already long meetings even longer. In this video, I’ll share with you 3 simple steps to help you get BETTER ideas from your people while ensuring you don’t discourage them. In the comments below, I’d like to hear from you. What are your thoughts and perspectives on getting better ideas from your people?

Want to drive innovation? You need to lead your employees in stepping up for change.
