04 Feb Effective Leadership Skills: Transforming Your Work From A Job To A Calling
Purpose is ultimately the engine that drives all success. We know from research that one of the top 3 qualities that people desire from their leaders is “to be inspiring.” Effective leadership skills show us that in order to be inspiring in the workplace, we have to transform the way we see our jobs.
People see their jobs in 1 of 3 ways:
1) it’s just a job
(it’s merely something we have to do to make a living & put food on the table)
2) it’s a career
(which is seen as a stepping stone to something they want in their lives like a better car or house)
3) it’s a calling
(meaning they see a deeper purpose in their work)
Which one are you?
1) job
2) career
3) calling
We know that people who see their jobs as a calling …
…work longer hours
…are more committed
…are more willing to sell
…are more happy
…etc
As a leader, it’s critical to lead by example when you’re inspiring people.
As a leader, it’s critical to lead by example to inspire people.
If you don’t see your job as more than a job or career, it’s time to check in with yourself and consider what is the higher work purpose.
Creating Effective Leadership Skills
It’s important that you’re clear first. Sharing your own higher purpose is a perfect example of what leading on purpose looks like and it encourages your team to discover what they believe to be the higher purpose in their roles.
In this video, I explain how to apply this powerful concept and add it to your list of effective leadership skills.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below, what’s your calling?
Keep on leading in work and life.
